Poker Table Selection
Choosing a poker table after thinking of a number of factors can significantly improve your chances of winning but a large number of both live and online poker players fail to remember to look for these factors, instead deciding to jump onto a poker table that has one or more players already active.
Too many players when taking their seat feel that they are going to sit down at the table, break into the action and then take control of the table but the reality is that they tend to find themselves being the player who is being targeted by the stronger players at the table.
So what suggestions do we suggest you use when trying to find the right poker table for you?
Firstly we should look at how important the right choice of table is to any players success. A lot of poker players feel that it doesn’t matter which table you head to for action but their theory is wrong, its the first move that a player can make to enhance their chances of winning.
So what should you look at to make your decision?
The percentage of hands that see at least a flop.
A table that features a high percentage of hands that see a flop tend to have a high level of players who lose a lot of chips because they are more willing to play hands that would be folded by players who play tight.
There are a large number of players who will be willing to limp into the preflop betting stages with hands that carry very little value, a prime example being ace rag hands.
The higher average pot the better
Looking for tables that feature a high pot averages will help you to get an insight as to the level of profit that you can make per hand. Higher pots mean that players are willing to chase their hands and so when you hit a strong hand you will have a handsome return.
Number of hands played per hour
The higher the number the more opportunity that you will have to come across a strong hand as there are more games being played within a 60 minute period. But you have to remember that the higher this number the tighter players are going to be on that table as they are folding frequently.
Find a table that offers all of these factors in your favour and you could be seated on a gold mine as long as your poker playing is of a high standard, the outcome is down to you and your play, so play tight aggressive and your good to go.
Just keep to a strong poker strategy and you will be fine but start to get drawn into your opponents style of play and you instantly become one of the players that people who are clever in table selection target and set their eye on taking your money. I’m sure i don’t have to tell you that the aim is to take their money, not give them yours.
