Poker in the Casino: Safety Tips for Women

Casinos across the world have strict security in place with constant monitoring of what is going on in all the card rooms, halls, the pit and all other sections of the playing area. However, a casino is a public place and when you go out to play Poker – particularly on a vacation – you must keep some safety tips in mind. Many people take weekend holidays to spend playing Poker for 24 hours at a stretch at some of the best casinos in the world! During the fun, they can easily forget about their belongings. Here are some important safety tips to keep in mind during a Poker holiday:

• Women, often unknowingly, set themselves up as easy targets at a Poker table for would-be thieves. A purse dangling from the back of a chair while the woman is lost in her Poker hand is easily swiped in seconds and may not be missed for hours. It is best to tuck the purse beneath you or tie it securely around the waist so that it is in front of your stomach all the time you are playing. Purses should never be kept on the floor during a poker game.

• Women are also advised not to keep all their credit cards and cash in a single purse. They can split up the money in a smaller wallet to tuck somewhere else in their clothing or carry a separate body money-holder pouch.

• If you are uncomfortable keeping your purse in your lap then it is best to keep it on the floor with the strap wrapped around your foot or ankle. Not only will you remember to take it with yourself when you get up from the Poker table but no one would be able to whisk it away either.

• Many casinos sell fanny packs with the casino’s logo on them at their gift shop. They are cheap, make nice souvenirs and because the strap goes around your waist, you can use one at the poker table to keep your cash and credit cards. You can also budget what you need to gamble with on a particular night and put only that much money in the fanny pack reducing your risk of losing money.

• Learn to keep tracks of your chips. Sometimes during great excitement at a Poker table in a casino you may not notice that someone is swiping your chips from the audience. Most often there may be a lot of crowding and you need to be particularly careful when people are huddled much too close.

• Casino cameras keep track of all the ‘action’ but you can also decide to use the in-room safes and hotel safe deposit boxes for your traveler’s checks etc on a Poker holiday. You are not charged extra for using these boxes.

• Don’t count your money openly in public and always be wary of suspicious looking people around you.

• Report to the dealer immediately – if you wish in private – about a player you suspect of cheating

Poker holidays are great fun and more and more women are taking to the game. You can have a great Poker holiday at some fantastic international casinos by using some common sense – both at the Poker table and off it!
