Women in poker

It can’t be denied that the world of professional poker players includes far less women than men. But there are those females who have managed to become bright shining poker stars, and here is a short introduction to a few of them:

One of the Omaha poker lovers, Annie Duke is sometimes called “The Poker Queen”, since she has won World Series of Poker “Money finish” no less than 33 times and been able to bring a bracelet home with her as well. She has also written the much sought-after book “How I raised, folded, bluffed, flirted, cursed and won millions at the World Series of Poker”, which has been out in stores since 2005. She was born 40 years earlier, in 1965. She played a lot of poker as a young girl, as did her family and friends. Today she is one of the world’s most famous poker players, and trains both Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in the game. She has also won over 3 000 000 dollars from playing poker. Not bad, Annie!

It is hard to talk about women in poker without mentioning Annette Obrestad. Eventhough she almost always is related with Texas Hold ‘em and the WSOP victory, she is an Omaha poker fan. She is one of the very youngest poker pro’s, and is born in Norway 1988. To this day, she is the youngest person to win a World Series of Poker bracelet, and she is particularly famous online, where her online poker nickname is “Annette_15”.

Cyndy Violette is also one of the best Omaha poker players in the world, and she is born in New York 1959. She has been playing in tournaments since 1984, and in -04 she won a WSOP bracelet. Apart from that she is rumoured to have won more than $1,100,000 from her poker playing.

Kathy Liebert is a terrific female poker player too, and she is also born in N.Y. She, too, has a WSOP bracelet and more than 4 000 000 dollars in tournament winnings, some of them was in Omaha poker games…
