What Are the Basics of Blind and Button in Poker

There are many variants of poker games. In a game with a button, a non-playing dealer is appointed. The button is nothing but a round disk that is placed near the player who is dealing. The player marked with the button receives his card the last in the first deal and therefore bets last in the round. Once a deal ends, the button is passed on to the next player clockwise. The purpose is to help all players get an equal advantage of being the last to bet in a round.

Unless a Poker games has specific rules set by the House for number of blind bets, blinds can be used by a player to begin betting or during the betting. The general rules is that – in case of two blinds – the small blind bet is from the player to the button player’s left and the big blind is by the player two seats to the left of the button player. Betting in the first round begins by the first person clockwise to the blinds but in other rounds any active player after the button player can begin betting.

There are specific rules for using blinds in a Poker game and they include:
• The button must rotate around the table and the blinds must be adjusted accordingly.
• The button always moves clockwise and there may be multi-big blinds. Empty chairs do not affect the movement of the button.
• A player who is obligated to post a blind can raise the pot unless a dead blind is to be used.
• When two blinds are used for heads-up game, the small blind has to be on the button,

When a new player joins a game – usually an informal one – he must follow the following regulations:

• Standy for the big blind to come to him
• Bid an amount equaling the already big blind bet and request a hand. In Lowball Poker, the new player has to post a betting amount that is the double of the big blind
• A new player who opts for letting the button go past once without betting is not considered to have missed the blind and still needs to bid in reference to the big blind if he wants a hand immediately
• But a new player cannot get a hand that is between the button and the big blind. He has to wait till the button moves on.
• A big blind bet by a new player is considered his opening bet and he can raise on the next turn
• Player who end up missing any or all blinds can return to the game by paying in for all the blinds that were missed or pause for the big blind to come around. In case a player decided to make up for all the blinds that were missed, then only the amount of the minimum bet is considered live while the dealer picks up the remaining amount and for the center of the pot and is not taken into account as your bet. You can raise when the turn comes to you next
• If a player who had missed a blind is mistakenly given a hand, then the hand is considered dead.
• A player who loses all his chips when having gone all-in has to pay up for all the blinds that were missed before re-entering
